Simply put, The Truth About Witchcraft Today is the best and most
complete single introduction to Witchcraft ever published. It has but one goal:
To provide an introduction to every aspect of modern Witchcraft in a way that
anyone can understand.
This book is about Witchcraft today and assumes
that is what interests you. As a result, there is not a lot of history here.
Instead, it focuses on what people are doing today now in hundreds of thousands
of homes, yards, forests, and other places all around the world.
According to respected author Scott Cunningham, Witchcraft is composed
of two parts. The first is the "craft" part, and is composed of various kinds of
folk magic. The second is the religious part. The religion of Witchcraft is
called "Wicca." In fact, the source of the word "Witch" is "Wicca." Combine the
religion, Wicca, with folk magic and you have Witchcraft.
Cunningham
describes all of the aspects of both parts of Witchcraft and gives examples you
can follow. He points out that there are five major ways Wicca differs from
other religions: Worship of the Goddess and God; reverence for the Earth;
acceptance of magic; acceptance of reincarnation; and lack of proselytizing
activities. He then explains in detail the importance of these ideas to the
religion.
Also included in this book is a description of the important
tools used by Witches. The ceremonial knife called an athame is traditionally
sharp on both sides, although many Witches use other types. This blade is for
ritual use only and should never be used to draw blood or for any other purpose.
The cauldron is a symbol of the Goddess and all that she encompasses the
universe, completion, reincarnation, fertility, abundance, and love. The cup or
chalice is another symbol of the Goddess.
Other tools described include
images of the God and Goddess, the altar, the pentacle, the censer, bowls of
salt and water, and much more. You will not only learn what they represent, but
also how they can be used.
In this book you will learn how to make the
Wiccan magical circle, the place of power in which all ritual and magic takes
place. Then you will discover what the festivals are and how they are
celebrated. You will also learn about the full moon rites. Finally, the book
reveals how the magic of the Witch is performed.
This book is
specifically designed for two types of people. The first is for the person,
young or old, who is interested in becoming a Witch. The Truth About
Witchcraft Today gives you all of the basics so you will know what to look
for in other people, books and groups. The excellent annotated bibliography
shows you a wide variety of books that can add to your understanding. The other
type of person is the doubter or debunker. If you are open-minded enough to read
this book, you will discover that Witchcraft has nothing to do with Satanism.
Rather, it is a peaceful, loving, spiritual tradition whose followers only seek
to practice their religion without prejudice.
