I think where mainstream religions go wrong, is in trying to replace gnosis with ritual. The Catholics have always come down hard on any gnostic heresy, thus suppressing any mystery traditions within the Church. This also reinforces the power of an intercessionary hierarchical Priesthood, with The Pope at the top. Also, the prayers of the faithful are not to be directed at Deity, but rather at one of the Saints, who will then intercede with the almighty for you. Yanno, because God can't be expected to communicate with his flock up close and personally. If God wanted to speak directly to people, he wouldn't have written the Bible, would he?
Now turn to Corinthians, Ch10 vs 17&18. "
"But him that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord (Jesus)"
"For not he that commendeth himself is approved, but he whom the Lord (Jesus) commendeth".
Well you don't keep a dog, and bark yourself, do you?
