The Basics of All Religions and Spiritual Paths
« on: December 06, 2010, 05:21:08 PM »

Faith.

Pretty much everything is based on faith in something.  Faith in a higher power, faith in the power of the earth or even faith that there is no higher power.

The other basic building block is communication.  The majority of paths believe that we can talk to and work with whatever higher power is out there.

Then there is community.  Most paths are centered around some sort of community, even monks who have a vow of silence still live in a group of like minded people.  We constantly get new people here looking for a community.

Even Atheism can be considered a faith.  Faith in logic, and rational thinking.

Maybe Love as well? All religions speak of giving love and showing kindness to others.

Personal experience.

Personal experience helps to build on faith, in my opinion. A personal experience with ones religion will strengthen their faith and bring them closer to the religion as well!

no - faith refers to a belief in something which is not based on proof

an atheist's beliefs have a logical underpinning which is an entirely different kind of animal than faith.

Okay...then how would an Agnostic fit into this scenario??  Not quite religious, yet not exactly Atheist either...Agnostics can neither confirm nor deny the existence of a Higher Power.

According to Huxley, agnosticism is a method of skeptical, evidence-based inquiry. It is not a belief, it is an attitude about beliefs, particularly religious or metaphysical claims.

There is one and only one thing that forms the basis of all religions: control. Whether self-control, or control of others, the point of religion is control in some form.

I'd have to disagree.

I can control myself just fine without religion.  I don't use my religion to control myself.  I also don't use it to control others.  Or the world around me, for that matter.

Faith (in): Pizza!

Communication: When I partake of its sacred flesh, it speaks to me via bowel rumblings.

Community: Many people exclaim in wonder when I go out in public after partaking of the sacred flesh. They honor The Holy Pizza by flapping their hands and holding their noses and asking "My God, What Is THAT?" Thus the word of Pizza spreads.

Piiiiiiii-zaaaaaa!

This portion of TCC has been brought to you by: The Cheesus Chrust Pizza Company.  Home of the Crucifixion Pizza.  "Mmmm...sacrilicious!!!"  "Because blasphemy never tasted so good."
