This night the veil grows thin and visions and voices of those that have been again can be seen and heard. listen well to what they tell . Thank them when their done.
 
Remember family and friends . Those that help make us what we are , those that guided us along the way . Those whose footsteps we now walk in .Some day we to shall pass away and on this day will there be those who can hear what we say.

I decided to put this here since it is part recipe and part ritual for Samhain.

Rememberance Cookies - These cookies are made on Hallows Eve.  As you put them together, think of those who have crossed over that you wish to comune with.  They can be shaped like people or what ever you choose.  The herb Rosemary is added for rememberance.  Some of the cookies are eaten while telling stories or attributes of special ancestors, reminding us we still have access to their strengths or perhaps their weaknesses.  The rest of the cookies are left by a fire as an offering.  This can be a solemn ritual or light hearted.

Cream together:
1 1/2 cup powdered sugar
1 cup butter
1 egg
2 tsp vanilla
1 tsp almond extract

Mix together well in a separate bowl:
2 1/2 cup flour
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp cream of tartar
1 1/2 tsp chopped rosemary

Add the dry mixture to the creamed 1/2 at a time.  Beat well.  Refrigerate 3 hours.  Divide dough in half and roll out to 3/16 inch thick.  Cut out and bake at 375 degrees for 5 - 7 minutes.  Repeat with second half of dough.

NOTES:  If you do not have cream of tartar, omit it and the baking soda and use 2 tsp baking powder.
