mabon advice please!
« on: September 15, 2011, 09:35:58 PM »

Hey everyone. Anyone have advice on how to celebrate Mabon in a constricting setting? I have a lot of pagan-hating roommates and I want to balance a respect for their beliefs and still celebrate my rites and holidays.

I would take it outside away from the pagan hating roommates.  Pretty tough to strike a balance in that environment.

You could decorate with gourds, pine cones, acorns, and a red or orange candle.  To them it would look like a fall decoration, but you would be using symbols and colors of Mabon.  Take a walk in the woods or a park, or even just around the yard and notice the changes the cooler weather brings.  Silently give thanks to your higher power for the summer which is ending and the autumn that's approaching.  Check out the Holidays section on this website, it has a good bit of information.  Your Mabon celebration doesn't have to be big and flashy, it just has to have meaning for you.

This time of year is for the rest after labor. The second harvest of autumn. Rituals at both equinoxas honor balance between light and dark. We know the sun is now fading in the sky.Balance is stll honored but with more of a nod towards the coming darkness. Another main
theme is that of thanksgiving for all the bounty of the year.

We understand it's time to enter the darkness but patiently await the return of the son. Personified by the rebirth of the devine child at Yule which will return us to Spring.

Mabon 2012 is September 20-22 in the Northern Hemishere
March 20-22 in the Southern Hemishere.

Claudette said it very well.  In addition, bake or cook something for a feast using the things that are harvested at this time of year.

I'm still figuring out what to do for Mabon, I took my rites on Mabon and this year marks my 10 year anniversary. I'll probably just light a candle.

For me? A simple affair with a little extra effort on the stove. Celebration in quiet contemplation with TV and phone turned off for a while.

I'll agree with oldghost on this one.

Happy Mabon, everyone!
