Sun-Dogs
« on: June 21, 2013, 03:15:52 PM »

Sun Dogs (parhelion), scientifically speaking are phenomena caused by the refraction of light from the sun, giving the illusion of three suns. A particularly good sun dog will also have a halo around the main sun and passing through the sundogs. The sun dogs are always to the right and left of the main, and never above or below. These can be seen anywhere in the world and at any time of the day, although they are more common at sun-up or sun-down. Sun dogs have been noted throughout history, and in early times some significance was associated with their appearance.

I was wondering, if anyone associated sundogs in their craft, path or tradition? and if so, what significance do they hold for you? Do they carry a message or omen? Do they bring luck? Please feel free to share your thoughts on this one even if they are merely pretty lights in the sky for you.

I don't believe I've ever seen them! Anytime I try to look at the sun, I get those marks where all I can see is the shape of the sun but black everywhere I look and when I close my eyes, (Hopefully someone knows what I'm talking about) I don't think there's anything spiritual about that though! Interesting thought on the Sun-dogs, however. I'll have to do some research about them!

Sun Dogs are what the Ojibwa call the catcher of clouds , they bring in the winds and supposed to bring rain if you know how to call them . This is nit and easy thing to do and should not be tried by anyone , PERIOD .

I've only seen it during one period.  It was 64 below zero for a week straight.  The water vapor froze in the air.  It was like standing inside a snow globe that had been shaken up and frozen in the moment the glitter starts to fall.  Beautiful beyond words.

Significant? Not that I know, but then I don't claim to know everything.

You hit the right angle CE when you saw it 22 degrees , if you stay awake a lot , on the night when the moon is very bright  you may also see a moondog .
