How to Use the Search Function
« on: October 29, 2009, 09:12:47 AM »

Many newbies seem to be having trouble not knowing if someone had already made a thread about a particular subject. And many don't seem to realize, or think of there being a search function. As such, I have decided to create this thread in this sub-forum for the newbies.

So, yes we have a search function here for everyone's benefit.

The search function is at the top of the page, on every page of this forum. So you know that it is indeed a search function, it says "Search". Simple enough.

Now that you see the search button, you press it and it shall direct you to another page with a blank bar for you to type in. Now, to properly use said function, you have to type in that blank bar the subject of your search so you can see if someone has already created a thread on the topic you are wondering about.

If you see that that particular topic does have an existing thread,  DO NOT CREATE A NEW ONE ON THAT SAME TOPIC.

If the subject you are searching for has no existing threads on it, then it is okay to create a new thread on it.

That is how you use the search function.

Thank you,
Shaara-chan

Great idea Shaara!

I believe if the search box is used within a sub-forum, only that sub-forum is searched. Likewise in a thread, so in order to search the entire board, one should be on the main index page.

It would be wise to sticky this thread, so if a mod that stumbles by here might be so kind as to do the honors...

If you click on the magnifying glass to the left of the search box, it will take you to another screen "Set Search Parameters".   I find the additional options available there very useful when searching.

The search function is for pussies.  Badasses either search manually, or else make a thread where they TYPE ALL IN CAPS demanding the information you need.  You want to be a badass, don't you?

I somehow missed this thread when I popped in here *realizes it's not even been a month yet* uh... a few weeks ago.  I found this out when a thread was created on a topic that already existed in a different sub-forum.  Please don't hate on me for quoting FW though he is no longer with us...

And Aedh, I kind of like you.  :-*
