Is Wicca ...
« on: March 07, 2009, 06:11:54 AM »

a religion with a set creed ?

If no, what is consistenly believed among Wiccans ?

If yes, what is the creed ?

This is not a trick question, or a strawman argument.
As I explained in my introduction, I here to be educated.

ben_lightwalker.

ps. If you want to refer me to a writing, that would be fine, however if you prefer to explain your ideas in type written form, that would be a bit better, as I would so like to feel like I am talking to a Wiccan.

Ummm ... this might help a little.

http://wicca.com/forums/index.php?topic=247.0

The best thing might be to research the wiccan rede as a starting point. Earn a thorough understanding for yourself ... then ... if there's a particular point you are having a problem with come back and ask a question.

You might also want to study Wiccan traditions, the founder(s) of Wicca, Wicca's history and evolution, the Wiccan Ardanes etc. Maybe read a few books on Wicca ..

IMHO you may find Neo-Pagan paths to be a little different in that you are generally expected to go figure things out for yourself.

You know .... form your own thoughts and opinions on things.  Be your own person.  :)

Yes, Wicca is a true religion with its own creed. Yes, there are several Wiccans on here. Some happen to belong to covens, or several covens, and others like myself are solitary.

If you want to know what the Wiccan Rede look it up. I look forward to discussions with you once you do.

Yes, ben_lightwalker, Wicca is a true religion.  Gerald Gardner started it in the early 1950s.  Look him up.  He might be considered "odd" by some people, but I think we all are "odd" to some degree.

.... to feel like I am talking to a Wiccan.

In here, you ARE.

Your questions are valid, to be sure, but I'll treat you no differently than anyone else....Something I am sure you'll appreciate....

Wicca is a seeking religion.  NOT for those of a lazy bone, so....seek!  As you've been shown the way already.

Come back and let us know how you fared, and what questions your answers gave room to.  We'll work it out from there!

Actually, I feel the (vague) question was just specific enough to be answered...vaguely.

I won't list each and every tenet or dogma of Wicca, but I will answer specific questions.

b_l has already stated his path in another thread and his intent in being here.  I'm not under the impression that he wants to convert to Wicca or become Wiccan; he's here to learn.

No, it's not the new, kinder, spoon-feeding FW.  It's FW construing someone's intent.

I mean if we're not answering any questions, what's the point of the forum?

If the only rule for inclusion is the wiccan rede, and the interpretation of it is subjective, inclusion criteria is pretty wide open, no? Sounds like Ghandi and Martin Luther King might have been a Wiccans!

Yes.

But then it wasn't stated ITT or anywhere else that I'm aware of that the Rede was the only rule of inclusion.

OK.  Here comes the "wise" guy to set y'all straight ...

She's not "prime" because ...

  • According to her she is "even."
  • The only even prime number is two.
  • Her multiple personalities are more than two.
  • So if she is more than two and she is even then she cannot be prime.
