Hello from the deep centre of the Western World
« on: August 22, 2018, 01:57:43 AM »

Hi there,

I am very excited to be here, and also quite nervous... Here is a little about me:

My real name is Sarah. I am a little scared going down this path - due to relatives and previous belief (I'm sure I am not the only one here with this spiritual awakening dilemma... ) and had given myself an alias, Vivienne (which has meaning for me). So you might wonder why I am choosing this path, as opposed to something else since I am treading carefully... Well this isn't my first encounter with paganism. When I was a child I believed in and "felt" the magic of paganism but of course at the time I did not know it had a name. In my early teens I discovered Wicca, Druidism, etc. and was hooked! My memories of those days are filled with warmth and wonder.

My story leading up to now is a long one, but I shall cut it short - after 8 years of being Catholic (which is my heritage and still beautiful), I cannot ignore the yearning and calling of my ancestral roots any longer. I don't know why this sense of nostalgia and Wicca has washed over me, but it is here and am fortunate to be in a position where I can practice it in peace (except for three small kids running around!) Unlucky though, that I now live in a country that is VERY Christian on paper, but atheist in belief. There is nothing wrong with that, but it makes living in a little village difficult to be out in the open about my beliefs.

So I am not out of the broom closet.

A large part of why I have also turned my attention to paganism again is because of my children. The material world can be so depressing, and I want them to grow up with wonder, magic, awe, and love. I want to (and already am) teaching them respect for nature, all creatures, living, non-living... etc. I want them to think of their childhood, leading into adulthood and rest of their life, with happy and enchanting memories, so that they can be who they want to be from the start and not have to be scared about "who they are" and feeling scared to be open to me about how they feel or what they believe in. This world is not good enough for my beautiful little souls, and I will do my utmost to make it worth their while.

Now to the basics: I am 35 years old, half German / half South African, grew up in South Africa and now live in Germany with my husband (who is totally supportive of this by-the-way, but not particularly interested in anything religious or spiritual) and three small kids. I was a bookseller for 12 years and am at home now... crazy busy with kids, but also yearning for more intellectual stimulation.

Hope this introduction did not put anyone to sleep. If you have come this far... yay.

Many blessings and love.

Sarah... or Viv

Welcome to our Forum Sarah/Vivienne.

Your story will sound very familiar to many of us here; and I welcome you and congratulate you on deciding to find your own way. Most of us here would self-describe as Pagan Seekers, I think; though there's a wide variety of individual paths and beliefs, we all (mostly) respect each others' own individual ways of pursuing those paths and beliefs. There's a vast amount of useful information here; particularly, read the "pinned" threads - but don't take any of them as The One And Only True And Genuine Truth  (known as TOAOTAGT for conveniece).

Keep your options open, always. Personally, I don't "believe" anything very much; I suspect a great many things; I suspect that some of them may turn out to have some resemblance to "truth", in some sense; but I don't "believe" any of them too readily. That way, if (when) new information comes along, I'm not so committed to a single point of view that it's a big wrench to change my mind. I recommend this approach to dealing with all reality; not just religious or spiritual, but also political, economic, or even scientific. My philosophy, if you can call it that, can be summed up in seven words:-

"Believe nothing; question everything; think for yourself!"

Again, welcome to the TCC Forum; I look forward to reading future contributions from you,

Blessed Be, and may your path bring you and your young ones love and joy, romance and adventure,

Hey Viv, welcome to TCC, it's always nice to welcome another new seeker to our merry throng. As Al has already given you the bigger TCC welcome, and a goodly one it was, I'd just like to say that I hope you find all you seek while you are with us and much you can pass along to your younglings. We are quite quiet for now but there's always someone around to help. Our search engine is really very good so feel free to use that, and browse the pages as you will, share with us as you wish and if you have any questions don't be afraid to ask.
