Meaning of the symbol
« on: January 30, 2014, 05:50:08 AM »

Would Like to know if there is any pagan meaning to this symbol.

I have been drawing this since childhood and got it as tattoo 7 years back. Every time I am thinking or listening to something I start drawing this. Now recently some believers of Hinduism said this is a strong symbol of energy and should not be on my body.

I did some research and found that the spiral is the symbol of goddess and the rays are symbol of the sun. Do let me know if there is anything else.

I am not able to upload the photo for some reason so pasting a weblink

Many cultures had  at some point a sun goddess...which at some
point changed to a sun god. Have you researched that point of view?

I can also see it may be used as a symbol for energy. But you have the
symbol on your body and it has a special meaning to you, so if some
one asks what it means tell them whatever meaning you wish.

It would seem to me the meanings are widely varied. If I were you I
would do a little more research. Maybe look into the history of the
symbol and what it means today.

I would be interested in hearing about this.

For me it has been symbol of my inner self. Powerful and strong.

But as we all know that symbols, stones and similar stuff attracts energy. I just wanted to make sure that my tattoo is not attracting bad energy. I am researching on it :).

Unless you charged the ink before it was put on or did a spell to charge it .it should not draw energy to you . I know people who have charged their piercings , and the only tats  that I know have been charged were ceremonial ones . All those have been story tattoos .

...... However, if the tat starts to pulsate or glow, then watch it carefully just in case tentacles start to sprout from it and take over your body. Bloody difficult to get rid of those things once they start..... :-p

Bliss, I did a little research and found this much.  Taken from symboldictionary.com

Spiral
The spiral is probably the oldest known symbol of human spirituality. The spiral has been in rock carvings thousands of years old, on every continent in the world. The religious significance can only be guessed at, but it has been found on tombs, and almost certainly has a connection with the sun, which traces a spiral shape every three months in its travels. The double spiral found in neolithic Celtic stone art also follows the path of the sun, describing the movements of the heavenly body over the course of a solar year.

I will keep looking.  I am learning so much from it.  Thank you.

My moose tattoo started to get out of hand. Gave me all kinds of backtalk. When he was done with his temper tantrum I asked him "Is that your final antler?"    ;D
