A 20 Year Journey Into Wicca

Like so many others, I grew up surrounded by Christian friends and family. Thus, when I was introduced to Wicca and Witchcraft in 1997. I had a lot of misinformation to deal with before I could truly embrace these paths.

As I connected with Wiccans and Witches around the world, I discovered a warm, open-minded and very tolerant group of people. Some shared their love of aromatherapy, herbs or gardening with me, while others enjoyed talking about their connection with animals.  Virtually everyone enjoyed the outdoors and had a deep respect for our Mother Earth. Contrary to what I had been taught in church, I found no “evil” in their beliefs or practices.

As I explored the Pagan holidays and traditions one by one, my comfort level continued to grow. To my amazement, the more I learned about these peaceful nature-based paths, the more “at home” I felt.

If you are just starting to explore Wicca or another Pagan path, it’s possible you will experience that “coming home” feeling from the start. But if, like me, you spent the first decades of your life in another religion, it may take a bit before you can totally let go of  the inaccurate information you were taught.

Having doubts about a path doesn’t mean that it is right or wrong.  It may just mean you need more information before deciding if it’s right for YOU.  That can take time.

Just be patient. I have been exploring for 20 years now and have enjoyed every minute of it.  Embrace your quest and keep in mind that the best spiritual journeys can take a lifetime!
