Using intuition when choosing a path forward.
Intuition can be one of the most valuable tools we bring to our magical practice. It can help us choose the right time to act, sense when something deserves our attention, and recognize possibilities that our logical mind may not have noticed yet.
But intuition can be subtle and often begins as a feeling. Something tells you to wait before making a decision. You suddenly think of someone you haven’t heard from in months. You feel drawn toward one path even though another seems more practical. Perhaps you walk into a place and immediately feel comfortable—or feel that something simply isn’t right.
Most of us have experiences like these. The difficult part is recognizing when that feeling is intuition and when it is simply another thought passing through our minds.
What Does Intuition Feel Like?
Intuition doesn’t speak in the same way for everyone.
For some people, it appears as a sudden sense of knowing. There may be no logical reason behind it, yet the answer feels surprisingly clear.
For others, intuition speaks through the body. You might feel a tightening in your stomach when something feels wrong or a sense of lightness and ease when something feels right.
It may also arrive through an image, a word, a memory, or a thought that seems to appear from nowhere.
Sometimes intuition is even quieter than that. It may simply be a small feeling that keeps returning.
The important thing is to begin noticing how your own intuition communicates with you.
Intuition Is Often Quiet
One reason intuition can be difficult to recognize is that our minds are rarely silent. We have plans to make, problems to solve, things to remember, and worries demanding our attention. In the middle of all that mental activity, a small intuitive nudge can easily be overlooked.
Intuition often doesn’t argue its case. It may simply say, Wait. Or, Look again. Or perhaps, This feels right.
Then our thinking mind steps in with a dozen reasons why we should ignore it.
Learning to recognize intuition begins with noticing those first impressions before we explain them away.
Intuition, Fear, or Wishful Thinking?
This is where things become a little more complicated.
Not every strong feeling is intuition.
Fear can speak very loudly. So can hope. If we desperately want something to happen, it can be easy to interpret our desire as inner guidance. If we’re afraid of something happening, anxiety can feel like a warning.
While there are no perfect rules for separating them, there are some differences worth noticing.
Fear often comes with urgency. It may repeat the same frightening possibilities over and over, becoming louder the more attention we give it.
Wishful thinking often tells us exactly what we want to hear.
Intuition can be surprisingly simple. It may arrive without a long explanation or an emotional story attached to it. Sometimes it even tells us something we would rather not hear.
This doesn’t mean intuition always feels calm or comfortable. A genuine warning may certainly make us uneasy. But the original message itself is often much simpler than all the thoughts that follow it.
Look for Patterns
One of the best ways to understand your intuition is to look backward. Think about times when you had a feeling about something and later discovered that feeling was worth listening to. How did it begin?
Was it a physical sensation in your stomach or chest? Did a thought suddenly enter your mind? Did you simply knowsomething without understanding why?
You can also think about the things that unexpectedly caught your attention. An object, animal, word, or coincidence outside of us isn’t necessarily intuition speaking to us. But our response to what we notice can sometimes awaken an intuitive feeling or understanding within us.
The distinction is worth remembering: intuition comes from within, and the things happening around us are simply the prompts that encourage us to listen more closely to our inner guidance.
Looking back at these experiences can help you recognize your own intuitive language. Over time, you may begin to notice patterns in how your inner guidance tends to appear.
And you may discover that your intuition has been speaking to you far more often than you realized.
