Messages from Animals

Communicating with animals in the yard.

The Goddess speaks to us through the natural world. Sometimes it is through the elements and other times it is through the plants and animals around us. To understand the messages that animals bring us, it helps to know a little about the messenger. Learning about the animal you encounter will make it easier to pick up on their message.

Animals have a great deal to teach us. Some are wonderful parents and protectors, others are experts at survival and then there are those who will simply teach us how to be playful or more loving. Our ancestors had a close connection to the wildlife in nature. They would learn the “language” of an animal by studying its habits and getting to know it’s personality. Thus they knew what message the Earth Mother or Sky Father was sending them when the animal appeared.

Sometimes an animal can warn us that a harsh winter is approaching. Other times it may bring a message that Spring is near. Some say that birds have led him lead them to food and water or helped them find their way when they became lost.

Certain animals bring a message of strength or courage, while others tell us to relax and enjoy life. Remember the old sayings: clever as a fox, wise as an owl or strong as an ox? These are traditional animal symbols. What that animal symbolizes to YOU is what matters most Again, the more we learn about our animal friends, the easier it will be for them to communicate with us.

When an animal shows up in your life repeatedly, even if it’s only in your dreams or images, there’s a good chance it has a message for you. If you see an animal in an unusual place, somewhere it normally doesn’t hang out, ask yourself if it could be bringing you a message. Think about the animals personality and special abilities and consider whether these are qualities you need to work on in your life.

Not every animal we encounter will have a Divine message for us, but all will offer us a teachable moment. On a daily basis our animal companions can teach us about love, trust, friendship and loyalty. We can laugh, play and learn how to enjoy life together.
