Promoting Religious Peace = When you follow a non-Christian path, it’s almost certain that sooner or later you’ll find yourself on an emotional battleground. This is especially true if you are a Christian Which trying to embrace teachings from two or more traditions. If Christian friends or family members are openly (or even secretly) condemning the Pagan practices that you love, what are you supposed to do?
The information I’ll be sharing in this article, played a big part in why I am so comfortable today blending the Christian and Pagan paths. if you’re coming from a Christian background, or have friends and family who are Christian, you should find these articles helpful.
Christian and Pagan beliefs often appear to be miles apart and navigating between these paths may seem impossible. That’s how I felt when I first started to explore Wicca and other nature based paths. Then I stumbled upon a collection of ancient texts that offered a beautiful bridge between these conflicting beliefs.
“Follow the law of the Earthly Mother… for her law is the law of life.” Excerpt from The Gospel of Peace, Book Four: The Teachings of the Elect
In the category Pagan vs. Christian, I often quote from a collection of ancient Essene manuscripts. The Essenes were a mystic Jewish sect that flourished from the 2nd century BCE to the 1st century CE. In a collection of writings known as the Teachings of the Elect, they openly honor both the Heavenly Father and Earthly Mother. Some—including myself—believe the Essenes are the same group we now refer to as the early Christians.
Why is this important? Because these Essene beliefs share many similarities with other earth-centered paths. Knowing about this connection can make it easier for those with a Christian foundation to explore and understand the practices of Wicca, Witchcraft and other nature-based spiritual paths.
Communing with Earth, Air, Fire & Water lifts our Spirit
When we learn to connect with Mother Earth and show our deep respect for nature, we draw closer to the Divine and open our lives to many blessings. in the Earth Magic category of the Living Wicca Today blog, you will find a series of posts on Earth, Air, Fire, Water and Spirit. The articles contain excerpts from manuscripts that are nearly 2000 years old. These writings give us insight on how our ancestors communicated with the Divine through nature.
“Messenger of the Sun! There is no warmth without thee, no fire without thee, and no life without thee. Green leaves of the trees do worship thee and through thee the tiny wheat kernel become a river of golden grass moving with the wind. Holy messenger of the Earthly Mother, enter the holy temple within me and give me the Fire of Life!”” Teachings of the Elect Book 4
When it comes to the element of Fire, nothing outshines the Sun. While there are other forms of fire, the sun has been honored and/or worshiped in many cultures throughout history. In folklore, each year the masculine Sun, who was warm and powerful, would cover the feminine Earth who was fertile and nurturing, and life renewed itself again. This time was often referred to as the greening of the Earth.
“Thou shalt celebrate a daily feast with all the gifts of the Messenger of Earth: The golden wheat and corn, the purple grapes of autumn, the ripe fruits of the trees, the amber honey of the bees.“ Quote from Book #4 The Teachings of the Elect
The earth has always represented abundance, strength and stability. In rituals an object may be buried in the ground as an offering, or to allow its energies to disperse and be absorbed by Mother Earth. But by far, the Earth’s greatest gift to us, is the gift of good health. We plant tiny seeds in her rich soil and are rewarded with foods that nourish and heal the body.
“In the midst of the fresh air of the forest and fields, there shalt thou find the messenger of Air. Patiently she waits for thee to leave the dank and crowded holes of the city. Seek her then and draw deeply of the healing draft which she doth offer thee.”
Teachings of the Elect Book #4

Air is an element through which you receive information about the world around you. If you need help with issues related to communication, wisdom or the powers of the mind, Air is the element to focus on. But how do we incorporate the element of Air into our work with the Divine?
